Short-term volunteer needed to help generate new funding for Nonprofits serving Veterans
ImportantGifts, a new nonprofit, will capture new money for nonprofits addressing the needs of veterans. We seek a volunteer to spend about 10 hours doing online research (which they could do from home) to help us reach the target audience.
ImportantGifts: The Next Big Thing
At the same time that the nonprofits we all care about, including those addressing the needs of veterans, are struggling for funding, Americans spend $250 billion each year buying presents for one another, many of which are not very meaningful for the giver or recipient.
There comes a point where most people prefer more meaning in their lives, rather than more stuff. So it is no surpise that the media has reported the beginning of a trend that we call donation gifts. That is, charitable donations in someone's name, instead of traditional birthday, holiday or wedding gifts. You feel good, they feel good, and together you help make the world a better place.
The question is, where do you go to shop for a meaningful donation gift? Filling this need is the fundamental idea behind ImportantGifts.org. The website lets you browse by cause to find thousands of real donation opportunities from outstanding nonprofits. You can choose not just what organization to fund, but exactly what your money will accomplish. For example, you can honor a friend by providing cataract surgery to make a blind person see, preserve an acre of the rainforest, feed the hungry - or help a vet.
Helping Veterans
One of the featured causes on ImportantGifts is Veterans, and the list of Featured Veterans nonprofits is listed below. We ask those who care about veterans to consider giving such donation gifts instead of more stuff, and to add veteran care items to their wish lists, so that others know that they would appreciate such a donation made in their name.
Veterans nonprofits invited to be featured on ImportantGifts
- America's National World War II Museum
- Coalition to Salute America's Heroes
- Disabled American Veterans
- Fisher House
- Homes for Our Troops
- National Coalition for Homeless Veterans
- Treat Any Soldier
- United Services Organization
- Veterans of Foreign Wars
- Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation
- Wounded Warriors
Volunteer Needed
So how do we reach people who care about veterans? There are many magazines, websites, newsletters, listserves, chat rooms, organizations, etc. that can help us reach them. We seek a volunteer to help research these communication channels so that we can reach out to them on the day we launch, around November 1. The work will be done online, can be done from home, and will probably take about 10 hours to complete.
(We already have a volunteer for most of the other 32 causes.)
